Microbial communities that colonize ultrabasic springs that emanate from serpentinized continental settings are betaproteobacteria (e.g., Hydrogenophaga spp) in subsurface/surface mixing zones and Firmicutes (e.g., Erysipelothrix spp) in hydrogen-rich subsurface fluids (Brazelton et al. 2013).
