For Reporting Year
To date, attention to Data Science in DCO has increased over the first year. Marshall Ma attended the early career scientist workshop in early 2014 and presented and encouraged data science among the participants (his blog can be found at: http://deepcarbon.net/blog/promoting-data-science-dco-early-career-scientists-workshop and presentations at: http://tw.rpi.edu/web/doc/DCOECS_Poster, http://tw.rpi.edu/web/doc/DCOECS_V1). The DCO Data Science Team, with collaboration from the DCO Engagement team and Secretariat, organized the 2014 DCO Data Science Day symposium at Troy, NY, and the event was well received by representatives from the four DCO science communities. Data and data science have explicitly been included in the curriculum of the 2014 DCO Summer School, such as Peter's lecture: DCO Summer School Using DCO Data and Marshall's lecture: Why Data Science Matters? And What Can We Do With It. The Data Science Team has presented elements of Data Management and Data Science at the Deep Energy workshop in Manchester UK early in 2013. The Team also developed the DCO “data policy” guidelines to be synergistic with the publication and sharing guidelines. These are to be online at: http://www.deepcarbon.net/dco/dco-open-access-and-data-policies. Further, detailed data management and planning documentation was developed early in the first year – this document can be found at: http://tw.rpi.edu/web/project/DCO-DS/WorkingGroups/DMP and will be migrated to the main DCO web site in 2014. Plans for the next phase include further dissemination of data management practices and plans.
